Do you find that sometimes you just can’t think straight and the most simple of tasks become complicated? This can happen when we are trying to juggle too many things at one time. Well, you are not alone in this as so many of us feel overwhelmed and unable to cope with all we have to do.

However, there are certain techniques you can develop to manage your mind and reduce your anxiety.

Take a moment during the day to sit, close your eyes and just breathe for five minutes. Breathe in and breathe out. That is all you have to do for that time. Just focus on your breathing and nothing else. Just sit, stay calm, close your eyes and breathe in and breathe out.

Then there are practical things to check to make sure your mind is as clear as possible:

  1. Make sure you have regular bowel movements. An upset digestive system can affect your ability to concentrate so ensure you have regular habits.
  2. Are your thirsty or hungry. Your brain must remain hydrated for you to concentrate. Drink a glass of water or have something to eat to immediately notice an improvement in your mood.
  3. Are you sleeping well? Lack of focus and concentration can be caused by poor sleep habits resulting in anxiety. Try exercise, yoga and meditation for a better night’s sleep.
  4. Are you in pain in any part of your body. Don’t ignore it. See your doctor to find the cause. It might just need some regular stretches to put it right.

If you are still fighting overwhelm and mind fatigue you might just be trying to do too much. Don’t try to be a superhuman to the detriment of your sanity. Get help, whether at work or home and share the load. However, no matter how busy you are, finding just five minutes on the essential breathing exercise will greatly improve your peace of mind.
